TIPS ON HOW TO KEEP FOOD FRESH NATURALLY (From "The Times of India" Newspaper dated: Friday 2nd April 2010)
1. Never store apples with any other vegetables or fruits. Apples emit certain gases which make other items rot. Similarly, never store tomatoes and cucumber in the same compartment as even tomatoes emit gases which can make the cucumber rot.
2. Always store eggs with the pointed side downward to keep them fresh longer.
3. Store cheese with a few cubes of sugar in an air tight container as the cubes absorb the moisture from the cheese and help it stay fresh for a longer period of time.
4. Keep a potato in your refrigerator. The potato absorbs bad smells from cooked food or even otherwise and also absorbs gases in the fride, thus helping other things stay fresher. But you much change the potato every few days.
5. Always store radish in a vessel with water to keep it crisp. |

Dry Eye syndrome is a common condition for those who spend hours in front of the computer or even television screen. The lack of natural lighting, dry indoor air, dust etc all must make the problem worse.
The first step to relieving dryness is to take frequent breaks from activities that need much eye concentration. This includes working on the PC, reading for hours, sewing etc. Take breaks by closing your eyes for a couple of minutes in between.
If you have a habit of rubbing your eyes often, stop now. This will just make the condition worse. Instead, force yourself to blink a few times extra to spread the moisture.
Are your eyes dry and painful? Use a warm napkin and put it over your eyes and nose and breathe in the moisture. |

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN : Use a face scrub, follow it up with a skin primer, to create a smooth base and ensure that your make-up stays longer. If you have dark circles, use a concealer and top it off with some loose powder. Add a colour to your cheeks with the right blusher. Avoid using a shiny blusher during the day. The best bet is a peachy matte blush that brightens up your cheeks instantly.
TIP TO TOE : Keep those cuticles at bay by brushing your nails with a loofah. Opt for a hand and foot cream to moisturize your tips and toes. Always carry a nail buffer. It gives you shiny nails instantly.
GET BABY SOFT SKIN : Use the age-old recipe of curd, honey and milk to get baby soft skin. You can also opt for baby oil and wash it off with a scrub.
KISSABLE LIPS : Dry, chapped lips are a huge turn-off. But you can get soft lips within two minutes. Just brush your lips with your toothbrush. The toothbrush brushes away all the dead skin and leaves you with soft, supple lips. Top it up with a lip gloss or a lip stainer. And if you have thin lips, use a lip plumper.
HAIR AND ABOUT : If your hair is cut in layers and you want a wet look, take moussee and scrunch it with your hands. If you want a softer look, use a serum on damp hair as it gives good texture. If you want to tie up your name, simply comb your hair upside down, then spray some hair spray, take two-three pins and tie up a French roll. If you have curly locks, comb it once only when it's wet. Then take some moussee to scrunch it up. If you have long, silky hair, then use some serum, comb your hair and let your locks flow naturally.
